What Is Global News Journalism?

Global news is a type of journalism that covers international events. It includes reporting on world affairs, political events and other issues that affect countries around the globe. Global news can be found in newspapers, magazines and on TV and radio broadcasts. News agencies that specialize in world affairs are also often called global news outlets.

During the early 17th century, when newspapers were first established in Europe and the United States, most of the news that was published was foreign. This was due to the fact that nation-states were still in their infancy and innovations in telecommunications such as the telegraph made it easier for news to travel. As a result, the first news agencies were established, like Agence France-Presse (AFP), Reuters, and Wolff. These were not news agencies for their own publications but rather for a variety of newspapers, magazine and radio and TV broadcasters.

A person who works as a foreign correspondent usually travels to a number of different locations to gather information for his or her stories. He or she reports to the news editor of a newspaper, magazine or radio or TV station. The person may write stories based on information from local officials, members of the community and local media as well as from events that he or she directly witnesses. The reporter may also interview government officials, business leaders and other prominent people in the area.

For a news organization, the Global news news division is responsible for the production of national and regional newscasts as well as local news in its market areas. Corus Entertainment, the owner of Global News, has a network of local television and radio stations as well as a national online news website. Corus also produces a satellite channel dedicated to global news.

The company’s global news channels are available on a wide range of devices including the web, mobile phones and cable and satellite TV. A free streaming service, Global News 24/7, was launched in April 2022. This allows users to select a local market and watch its local newscast, as well as national and global news headlines and live event coverage. The service is available on the Global TV app and on the Global TV website. A free Global News 24/7 feed is also available on Amazon Prime Video.

A local newscast is typically aired at six or seven p.m. in each time zone, depending on the area of the country. The format of the local newscasts varies slightly by market, but all of them have similar features such as a live ticker bar that updates with breaking news, a two-minute weather segment and a feature story or interview with a notable figure in each city.

AllSides’ Independent Review of Global News returned an AllSides Media Bias rating of Lean Left, meaning the source has a moderately liberal bias. The AllSides Media Bias rating is based on the percentage of the sources’ content that aligns with liberal, progressive or left-wing thought and/or policy agendas.
